Requirements for Importation of dogs and cats into Thailand



1. The country must be free from Rabies for at least 3 years.

2. The animals must be vaccinated with approved Rabies vaccines for at least 15 days prior to the departure.

3. The animals must be vaccinated against Leptospirosis at least 21 days preceding departure.

4. The animals must be healthy and free from any sign of infectious or contagious disease at the time of export.

5. The animals must had been resident in the country not less than 6 months preceding the date of export.

6. The animals must have identity certificates signed in the country of origin by a registered veterinary surgeon and further endorsed by a veterinary authority describing the age, breed, sex, color and markings or other points of identification of the dogs or cats.

7. The health certificate certify all as stated 1 - 6 issued by the authorized veterinary officer of the country of origin must accompany the animals on arrival.

8. The animals may only transit at an approved intermediate port, and, if the animals are so landed in transit, they must be conveyed in crates and not allowed to leave the precincts of any airport at which the aircraft landed except to an approved transit quarantine area.

The following will be the regulation for the ban or importation of swine and ruminants as well as the case of cats and dogs:-

According to the outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease in UK, the Department of Livestock Development announced:

(1) It is temporarily prohibiting the importation of swine and ruminants and other products of swine and ruminants including wildlife animals semen embryo, milk and milk products, blood and meat meals, wool, hair, bristles, raw hides and skins and trophies, straw and forage from UK.

(2) Other imported animals and animal products, which are not mentioned in No. (1), require a health certificate signed by a full time veterinary official of the Government of exporting country with his official stamp, certifying the conditions that the animals or animal products are free from FMD.

(3) In case of importation of cats and dogs into Thailand, the animals have been resident in the country of origin since birth or at least 6 months prior to export accompanied by a health certificate showing the animals are vaccinated against Rabies at least 21 days prior to the departure.
